Friday, Aug. 15

* The second outdoor concert of The Seasons' Front Porch Concert Series is Show Brazil, featuring Brazilian recording artist, vocalist, composer, percussionist, guitarist and musical arranger Eduardo Mendonça.

The concert will include bossa nova tunes, Brazilian standards, original compositions and even a Beatles cover. Joining Mendonça will be his quartet featuring Josh Wilson (piano and keyboard), Caxambu (percussion), Kohen Burrill (drums) and Birch Pereira (bass). Yakima violinist Sarah Baisinger will guest star on the bossa nova-flavored Beatles song.

Sponsored by the Downtown Yakima Rotary Club, the outdoor concert -- which includes a beer and wine garden -- begins at 7:30 at The Seasons, 101 N. Naches Ave. Tickets cost $15 and are available through The Seasons box office. Call 453-1888 or visit www.seasonsmusicfestival.com.

Saturday, Aug. 16

* You may not be able to afford the gas to do much car camping this summer -- or maybe it's all you can afford to do -- which is the topic of Saturday's Summer Campfire Program.

At the informal evening talk, road-trippers can hear Connie Estep present "You Can Take It With You: How Cars Changed Camping."

Estep, curator of the Columbia River Exhibition of History, Science and Technology Museum in Richland, will discuss camping and cars -- everything from the Model T to the Winnebago -- and she'll show photos of early camping outfits (from the weird to the wonderful).

Estep's talk begins at dusk, around 8:30 p.m., at Yakima Sportsman State Park, 904 Keys Road.

Admission and parking are free. Folding chairs are advised and marshmallows are provided afterward for roasting. For more information, call 575-2774.

Sunday, Aug. 17

* Local jazz favorites the Joe Brooks Quartet with Pam Ernst play Silver Lake Winery's scenic "viniferanda" Sunday as part of the winery's summer music series.

The Sunday concerts are from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. through the end of the month at Silver Lake Winery at Roza Hills, 1500 Vintage Road in Zillah. For more information, call 829-6235 or visit www.silverlakewinery.com.

* Calling all ogre fans: The final film of this season's Outdoor Summer Cinema Series is "Shrek the Third," the 2007 animated movie featuring everyone's favorite Far Far Away couple, Shrek and Princess Fiona.

In this installment, Shrek is reluctant to take the throne after Fiona's father dies, and goes in search -- along with Donkey and Puss in Boots -- of Artie, the legitimate heir.

Presented by Allied Arts of Yakima Valley, the movie -- shown on a 16- by 20-foot inflatable screen -- begins about 8:30 p.m. in Gilbert Park, 5000 W. Lincoln Ave.

Admission is a nonperishable food donation for the Northwest Harvest Food Bank. For more information, call the Allied ArtsCenter at 966-0930 or visit www.alliedartsyakima.org.
