YAKIMA -- A longtime Yakima resident has bequested more than $20 million to three Yakima Valley nonprofit organizations.

Details of the benefactor’s identity and plans for the money will be revealed at a news conference at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Yakima Convention Center.

The recipients are the Yakima Valley Community Foundation, Perry Technical Foundation and the Yakima Rotary Trust, according to a news release. The money will be earmarked for educational purposes.

The sizable bequest is the second of its kind announced in the past two weeks. The first, amounting to $14 million, came from Yakima philanthropist Helen Jewett, who died in October.

She left that money to numerous charitable organizations and nonprofit groups, including the Capitol Theatre, Yakima Valley Community Foundation, the Yakima Greenway Foundation and the Yakima Area Arboretum.

Sources confirmed that Jewett is not the benefactor of the $20 million.
