Steenbergen -- 70 Years

Julian and Julia Steenbergen of Yakima celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Nov. 22 with a family dinner hosted by their children.

Julian Steenbergen and Julia Patterson were married Nov. 20, 1938, at the home of the bride's parents in Yakima. They have lived in the area 93 years.

Mr. Steenbergen is a retired fruit grower. Mrs. Steenbergen is a homemaker.

The couple has three children, Julian and John, both of Yakima, and Harold of Tacoma. They also have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Blair -- 65 Years

Dale W. and Lois L. Blair of Yakima celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 20 with a family dinner.

Dale W. Blair and Lois L. Huff were married Nov. 20, 1943, in King City, Calif. They have lived in the area 84 years.

Mr. Blair retired as owner and Mrs. Blair as secretary and treasurer of Yakima Telephone Answering Service and Medical Exchange.

The couple has four children, Doug Blair of Naches, Rich Blair of Yakima, Detta Hanson of Renton, Wash., and Dennis Blair of Vancouver, Wash. They also have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Ramos -- 65 Years

Asencion and Sarah Ramos of Toppenish will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Nov. 27.

Asencion Ramos and Sarah Leon were married Nov. 27, 1943, in Lubbock, Texas. They have lived in the area 65 years.

Mr. Ramos is a retired farm laborer. Mrs. Ramos is a retired housekeeper for Toppenish Community Hospital.

The couple has seven children, Dolores Perez of Sunnyside, George Ramos and Lucy Rangel, both of Richland, Richard Ramos of Yakima and Eugene Ramos, Daniel Ramos and Ernesto Ramos, all of Toppenish. They also have 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

 

Hipner -- 60 Years

William and Edna Hipner of Yakima will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner Nov. 27.

William Hipner and Edna Denny were married Nov. 27, 1948, at the Methodist Church in Yakima. Mr. Hipner has lived in Yakima 88 years and Mrs. Hipner, 60.

Mr. Hipner served in the Army and retired from working in orchards. Mrs. Hipner worked in canneries and warehouses before retiring early to care for her mother.

The couple has four children, Lois Richmond of Cathlamet, Wash., Dorthy Hatfield of Yakima, Barbara Evans of Moxee and Velma Woolley of Sherwood, Ore. They also have seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two late great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Sanders -- 60 Years

Gail and Kathie Sanders of Yakima celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 14 with a family dinner hosted by their children.

Gail Sanders and Kathie Dueker were married Nov. 20, 1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yakima. They have lived in the area 65 years.

Mr. Sanders retired from fruit ranching and Farm Credit Services as a loan officer. Mrs. Sanders is a retired bookkeeper.

The couple has three children, Yvonne Alder of Kittitas, Jerald Sanders of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Jeanne Russum of Oregon City, Ore. They also have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Presson -- 60 Years

Allison Wendal and Alice Louise Presson of Yakima celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 20.

Allison Wendal Presson and Alice Louise Presson were married Nov. 20, 1948, in Yakima. They are lifelong area residents.

Mr. and Mrs. Presson are retired.

The couple has two children, John Presson of Vancouver, Wash., and Bill Presson of Selah. They also have two grandchildren.

 

Maine -- 60 Years

Gaylord and Barbara Maine of Yakima will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 25.

Gaylord Maine and Barbara Dorsett were married Nov. 25, 1948, at St. Joseph Rectory in Yakima. They have lived in the area 60 years.

Mr. Maine retired from Burlington Northern Railroad. Mrs. Maine is a homemaker.

The couple has five children, Jim Maine of Yakima, Judy Maine of Las Vegas, Bev Arens of Zillah, Gayla Marsh of Chandler, Ariz., and Bruce Maine of Goldendale. They also have nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

McCay -- 60 Years

Bill and Veda McCay of Yakima will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 30 with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 4301 Ahtanum Road in Yakima. The event will be hosted by their children.

Bill McCay and Veda Loveland were married Dec. 11, 1948, in Yakima. They have lived in the area 59 years.

Mr. McCay retired after 37 years as a scheduler for Weyerhaeuser. Mrs. McCay retired as a meat wrapper for Safeway.

The couple has four children, Bill McCay Jr. and Michael McCay, both of Selah, and Teri Walsh and Kelly McCay, both of Yakima. They also have 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Kwak -- 60 Years

John Wilbur and Mary Katherine Kwak of Yakima will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception Dec. 14 at the Golden Villa Club House from 2 to 4 p.m. The event will be hosted by their children.

John Wilbur Kwak and Mary Katherine Olson were married Dec. 10, 1948, in Wapato. They have lived in the area three years.

Mr. and Mrs. Kwak retired as farmers on the Royal Slope.

The couple has three children, John Kwak of Richland, Debra Kroon Yates of Yakima and Case Kwak of East Wenatchee. They also have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

MacNeil -- 50 Years

Doug and Ann MacNeil of Naches celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise party on Nov. 8 hosted by their daughters and their families. They are also celebrating with a cruise through the Panama Canal.

Doug MacNeil and Ann Baker were married Nov. 26, 1958, at the First Congregational Church in Yakima. They have lived in the area more than 60 years.

Mr. MacNeil retired from the Naches Valley School District. Mrs. MacNeil is an antique dealer.

The couple has three children, Joan Sheldon of West Richland, Kara Ranger of Naches and Lauri Jordan of Walla Walla. They also have seven grandchildren.

 

Knowles -- 30 Years

Tim and Leslie Knowles of Selah will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary Nov. 25 with a dinner.

Tim Knowles and Leslie Churchman were married Nov. 25, 1978, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Shoshone, Idaho. They have lived in the area 16 years.

The couple has two children, Mike of Pullman, Wash., and Kara of Seattle.

 

Vavricka -- 25 Years

Jeff and Julie Vavricka of Yakima celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Nov. 19 with a dinner hosted by their children.

Jeff Vavricka and Julie Braconnier were married Nov. 19, 1983, at Holy Redeemer Church in Yakima. They are lifelong area residents.

Mr. Vavricka is a laborer. Mrs. Vavricka is a professional developer.

The couple has three children, Brian Vavricka and Breanna Vavricka, both of Yakima, and Brooke Vavricka of Ellensburg.

 

Meyers -- 50 Years

Kenneth and Lucille Meyers will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 29 with a gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Yakima Area Arboretum.

Kenneth Meyers and Lucille Smith were married Nov. 28, 1958, in Reno, Nev. They have lived in the area 36 years.

Mr. Meyers retired from Yakima Superior Court as a court reporter. Mrs. Meyers retired from New York Life Insurance as a secretary and is working part time.

The couple has two sons, Kerry Meyers of Yakima and Kenneth Meyers of Santa Rosa, Calif. They also have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Annabell -- 35 Years

Mike and Gaye Annabell of Yakima celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Mortons Restaurant in Seattle.

Mike Annabell and Gaye Davidson were married Nov. 24, 1973, in Fullerton, Calif. They have lived in the area 29 years.

Mr. Annabell is an magnetic resonance imaging technologist at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mrs. Annabell is a polysomnographic technologist at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital Sleep Center.

The couple has three children, Amy Meadows of Federal Way, Wash., Nicole Switzer of Richland and Sara Annabell of Yakima. They also have six grandchildren.

 

Strate -- 25 Years

J. Roger and Valerie Strate of Selah will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Mexico with family in 2009.

J. Roger and Valerie Strate were married Nov. 21, 1983, in Yakima. They have lived in the area more than 40 years.

Mr. Strate retired after 27 years with the Selah School District. Mrs. Strate retired after 18 years with Planned Parenthood.

The couple has five children, Dana Diemer of Anchorage, Alaska, Sara Blankenbaker of Selah, Shawn Hammons of Wenatchee, and Aaron Hammons and Scott Hammons, both of Bellevue, Wash. They also have seven grandchildren.

 

Schmoe -- 25 Years

Rodney K. and Hope Schmoe of Yakima celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Nov. 18.

Rodney K. Schmoe and Hope Solis were married Nov. 18, 1983, in Yakima. They have lived in the area 51 years.

Mr. Schmoe is an operation specialist for Unified Grocers. Mrs. Schmoe is a supervisor for EPIC.

 

Wilkinson — 64 Years

John “Jay” and Ruth Wilkinson celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera with Allen and Wanda Wilkinson.

John and Ruth Wilkinson were married June 4, 1944, in Monarch, Ark.

Mr. Wilkinson retired from Strand Orchards as a foreman. Mrs. Wilkinson is a homemaker.

The couple  has three children, Sue McCorkindale, Wayne Wilkinson and Joan Amos. They also have eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 

Wilkinson — 55 years

Allen and Wanda Wilkinson celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera with Jay and Ruth Wilkinson.

Allen and Wanda Wilkinson were married Nov. 27, 1953, at First Christian Church in Yakima.

Mr. Wilkinson is retired from self-employment at Wilkinson Family Dairy. Mrs. Wilkinson retired as co-owner of Antique Alley.

The couple has four children, Merry Smith, Linda Howard, David Wilkinson and John Wilkinson, all of Yakima. They also have seven grandchildren.
