YAKIMA -- The purple building off Washington Avenue that once housed The Bean Pod espresso stand is now adorned in red, white and blue.
Mitzi Barber, who moved here in April from Alaska, purchased the business at 315 W. Washington Ave. and re-opened it as Heart of America Espresso. The patriotic decor is part of the shop's desire to support the community and the military.
Barber plans to designate one day a week when all proceeds will go to a specific charity or cause. Helping Barber is her daughter, Nicole Daugherty, who moved here to help manage the business.
On Friday and Saturday, the shop will use the proceeds to purchase coats for children in need.
Hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Depending on business, it may open on Sunday as well.
