Worried About The WASL?
If you take the Sunday paper as part of your NIE subscription, we will email WASL-prep questions to you each Monday afternoon. Questions relate to content of the Sunday newspaper and are intended to develop one or more of the following skills: reading and comprehension, essay writing, critical thinking, and evaluation and analysis. Questions are geared for grades 5-12.
This is a FREE service for NIE teachers. We need a valid email address. Sometimes schools block incoming mail, so be sure to ask your school to unblock NIE so we can get through your email. |

There's a wonderful program that gets newspapers and educational materials into the hands of area students. It's called Vacation Donation.
Here's how it works: When Yakima Herald-Republic subscribers go on vacation, instead of putting their subscriptions on hold, they can donate their newspaper delivery to the Yakima Herald-Republic Newspaper in Education program.
The money used for delivery then goes to provide newspapers and materials to local schools in the upcoming quarter. That way, students can enjoy your vacation too.
